Teghbir Singh, a 5-year-old from Punjab, has just achieved an incredible feat! On August 23, he reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, becoming the youngest Asian to do so. Even with tough conditions, Teghbir made it to the summit at 5,895 meters high. He started training almost a year ago with help from his coach and family. Earlier this year, he also completed the trek to Mount Everest’s base camp. What an amazing young adventurer!
Teghbir attributes his success to his coach, Bikramjit Singh Ghuman, a retired handball coach, and his supportive family. His father, Sukhinderdeep Singh, who joined him on the climb, shared, “Teghbir started preparing for this climb nearly a year ago. With Coach Ghuman’s help, he did exercises to boost his heart and lung health. We also went on weekly treks in hilly areas to build his strength and endurance.”
Teghbir Singh, a 5-year-old from Ropar, Punjab, has just made history by becoming the youngest Asian to reach the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 meters. He started his climb on August 18 and reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point, on August 23.
At the summit, a thrilled Teghbir said, “I knew where I was headed and finally made it. I even took a picture there with my dad. During tough times, chanting ‘Wahe Guru’ helped me keep going.”
Despite facing freezing temperatures of minus 10 degrees Celsius and tough conditions, Teghbir pushed through and made it to the top. He was awarded a mountain climbing certificate by the conservation commissioner of Tanzania National Parks. His climb is now part of history, alongside the world record set by Serbian boy Ognjen Živković, who reached the summit on August 6, 2023.
